Danish Ali’s Political Career

Danish Ali said that the JD(S) leadership had given their approval for him to run for office in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Amroha in UP. Despite it being his first election and the BJP’s overwhelming victory in the state, Ali had won well in Amroha, a Muslim-majority district that also contains a sizeable Dalit population. With almost 51% of the vote, he defeated Kunwar Singh Tanwar, a BJP member in office, by a margin of more than 63,000.

Ali was led to the JD (S) by his time serving as president of the Yuva Janata Dal and the Chhatra Janata Dal while he was a student at Jamia Millia Islamia.

Ali has maintained his position since joining the BSP. He has fast become the minority face of the BSP in national politics in a party where Mayawati has the last say. Ali also served as the leader of the BSP Legislature Party in the Lok Sabha, which had 10 members.

Danish Ali’s Remark On One Nation, One Election

Ali recently expressed opposition to the notion of one nation, one election, for which the Modi administration has established a panel, saying: “Since they have nothing left to say, they have brought in one nation, one election. After that, there would be one nation, one religion, one leader, and one industrialist. Are they going to govern the nation in this manner? You will be unable to hold office in this nation if you alter the Constitution.”

Ali, who is known for having connections across party lines, made headlines last month when he met JD (U) leader and Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar in Bihar prior to the INDIA summit.

Later, Ali stressed that the visit was private and that he knew Nitish from their time together as student leaders.

It is not Ali’s first recent public altercation with a BJP senior. He got into a violent dispute on August 6 after BJP MLC Hari Singh Dhillon screamed the phrase “Bharat Mata ki Jai” during his address at an event to celebrate the opening of the Amroha Railway Station’s upgrade. Ali, who was in attendance on the dais, opposed the slogan, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and said it’s not a BJP event to call for such slogans.
