The professional baseball player, Kumar Rocker, whose father is African-American and mother is Indian, debuted for the Texas Rangers against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, September 12. His performance was noteworthy, marking a significant milestone in American sports.
Born on November 22, 1999, Kumar Rocker is a professional pitcher for the Texas Rangers. In 2021, Rocker was selected by the New York Mets with the 10th pick of the MLB draft, however, due to some issues, he did not sign.
After spending a year with the Tri-City Valley Cats in the Frontier League, he was picked third overall by the Rangers in the MLB draft 2022. Following his recovery from Tommy John surgery, he made his MLB debut in 2024.

Career
Rocker grew up in Bogart, Georgia, attending North Oconee High School, where he excelled in baseball. As a junior in 2017, he had a 1.63 ERA with 68 strikeouts over 55+2⁄3 innings and participated in the Under Armour All-America Baseball Game and Perfect Game All-American Classic.
Additionally, he also represented the USA Baseball U18 National Team. Despite undergoing Tommy John surgery just two months prior, Kumar made a strong comeback, with his parents cheering from the stands during his MLB debut.
Parents
Kumar’s father, Tracy Rocker, is a former NFL player and College Football Hall of Famer from Auburn University. Currently, he coaches the defensive line of Tennessee Titans.
While his mother, Lalitha, is an educator whose parents immigrated to the United States from Andhra Pradesh, India. Tracy and Lalitha met while attending the University of Maryland, where Tracy was playing for the Washington Redskins.
Lalitha, whose is affectionately called Lu and Tracy were elated with their son’s performance during his MLB debut.
Witnessing Kumar’s performance from the stands, Lu shared, “He’s always been a fighter, and to see him perform like this is incredible. I knew from when he was two years old that he’d be a pitcher.”
