Notably, Asaduddin Owaisi has been representing the Hyderabad constituency for about 2 decades, ever since 2004.
Majlis and the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency
The Majlis (All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen) has held the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency since 1984, ever since Asaduddin Owaisi’s father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, won the seat. Asaduddin Owaisi then stepped up for the role in 2004, after winning the seat. Notably, back in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the difference between his votes and the BJP’s Bhagavanth Rao was around 3 lakhs.
Heading into the 2024 elections, the BJP is looking to topple Owaisi through their candidate, Dr Madhavi Latha. Madhavi Latha’s name was announced in the first list of the BJP’s 195 candidates, signifying that the party is serious about focusing on weak constituencies. According to Madhavi Latha, the Owaisi family has held the constituency for over 40 years but hasn’t brought any development in Old City.

Madhavi Latha, or Kompella Madhavi Latha is an Indian politician who will represent the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Latha will fight against Asaduddin Owaisi for the Hyderabad constituency. Madhavi is currently 49 years old and a renowned cultural activist who led the BJP’s campaign against triple talaq in the past.
Interestingly, Madhavi is also a professional Bharatnatyam dancer. Before becoming a politician, she studied political science, and she was also a NCC cadet. Madhavi Latha is also a renowned religious speaker and associated with many charity organisations like the Lopamudra Charitable Trust, LathaMa Foundation, etc.
Her parents are from Coastal Andhra and she obtained her degree from Gulbarga University, Karnataka and completed post-graduation from Mysore and is a Hindu by religion.
Husband and children
Madhavi Latha is currently married to her husband, Vishwanath, who is the founder and chairman of the Virinchi Hospital. She is the mother of three children—two daughters and a son. Notably, she homeschooled all of her children and the eldest child is currently at IIT.

Madhavi Latha set to compete in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency
Madhavi is the first female candidate to represent the BJP in Hyderabad. While seeing her name from Owaisi’s constituency came as a surprise to many, Madhavi justified that she has been working in the constituency for the past year. The 49-year-old shared how she has been going around visiting areas in the constituency and working for 11–12 hours.
She shared about her experiences, stating that there is no cleanliness or education and that children in Madrasas are not getting food. She explained how Muslim children eventually become child labourers with no future and how people are illegally occupying Hindu temples and homes. Madhavi also questioned why Old City is in such a pathetic condition despite being located in the heart of Hyderabad. She questioned Owaisi and his family’s 40-year reign in the constituency as elected representatives in a democracy.
