Kishore Jena career
Throughout his career, Kishore Jena has competed in many national and international competitions. However, he started out competing in Javelin in quite an unconventional way. As a teenager, Kishore sought admission to join the sports hostel in Bhubaneswar for volleyball. However, he did not have the necessary certificates, as such, he used his javelin throw certificate from a Cuttack tournament.
H eventually got in and began his training in javelin throw back in 2015 under Nila Madhab Panda. Later that year in 2016, Kishore Jena joined the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in Bhopal. Under the CISG, he continued to train under Rupanwita Panda before shifting his training to the National Institute of Sports (NIS), located in Patiala. At NIS, he trained under coach Samarjeet Singh Malhi and notably made some significant adjustments to his technique.
He made some major changes like increasing his run-up distance from 13-14 meters to 21 meters and then modified his release angle, which caused some remarkable improvements in his performances. He improved so much that he even managed to throw over 80 meters. Kishore Jena admitted that he took inspiration from videos of Jan Zelezny and Neeraj Chopra during his training.
Just recently, Jena got his visa cancelled ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. However, with the help of Neeraj Chopra who appealed to Indian Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar for help, the matter was eventually solved. This turned out to be a significant move as Kishore secured the 5th spot at the WAC 2023 Javelin finals.
