Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare, an upcoming true-crime documentary, reveals one of the scariest catfishing cases ever. It narrates the tale of a woman named Kirat Assi who finds out she has been duped into an unreal romance for nearly a decade.
In the recently released trailer for Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare, Kirat Assi talks about how years of online dating have negatively impacted her physical and mental health. This case was initially discussed in a podcast by Tortoise Media, where the subject discussed falling in love with Bobby Jandu, a Sikh guy who subsequently said he was unaware of Kirat Assi’s identity.
Who is Kirat Assi who was catfished by her real cousin Simran Kaur Bhogal aka Bobby Jandu and where is she now as her documentary drops on Netflix
Viewers can delve deeply into Assi’s catfishing and the startling reality of the scammer in Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare. The Netflix documentary’s subject disclosed that she had been speaking with Bobby for about four years prior to their admission of love.
A 43-year-old woman and marketer from West London named Kirat Assi fell victim to one of the most well-known cases of catfishing ever discovered. Beginning in 2009 and lasting for ten years, Assi’s cousin Simran Bhogal deceived her into dating a fake man named Bobby Jandu.
She worked as an arts and events assistant at Hounslow Community Services, and was also a radio presenter as well back in 2009 when she was aged 29 and received a Facebook friend request from her cousin who claimed to be Bobby, a cardiologist.
Bobby claimed he was in a witness protection programme having been shot in Kenya and also apparently developed many life-threatening illnesses as a result, which meant he was stuck in hospital in New York.
In 2010, a 31 year old British Indian woman named Kirat Assi received a text on Facebook. This text was from a man named Bobby, who was Kirat’s cousin’s boyfriend’s brother. In 2018, Simran confessed to Kirat that she was pretending to be Bobby after having catfished her for 10 years starting 2009. The case of Kirat Assi vs Simran Kaur Bhogal is believed to be the longest case known of catfishing and the first successful civil claim in the UK with Kirat arriving at an out of court settlement. Despite the emotional devastation, Simran faced no criminal charges, as catfishing is not illegal in UK.
Assi who now lives in London is back on her old slot at the radio station, is working in freelance marketing and hoping to be in a position to move out of the family home and in to her own place soon.
In 2022, her narrative was first made public in a number of episodes of the Alexi Mostrous-hosted true-crime podcast Sweet Bobby. Netflix, a streaming service, has now produced a documentary series about the incident.
She is a local radio personality and a skilled marketer, according to her website. She maintains a website that includes all the specifics of her case in addition to additional information for anyone who have been victimized by cyberbullying.
What happened to Kirat Assi?
Kirat Assi shared her tale on the Sweet Bobby podcast, stating that she became acquainted with Bobby Jandu after meeting him on social media. They eventually started talking on the phone every day, and occasionally their chats turned s*xual. She also told how Bobby, who claimed to be from Australia, would make up stories about being shot or having a brain tumour, among other extreme circumstances.
Remarkably, they never had a video call or met. Then, Assi claimed that Bobby would start acting possessively and coercively toward her, which would negatively impact Assi’s health and lead to a great deal of stress.
