After the violent clash in Bihar’s Jamui, the district police arrested Khusbhu Pandey for provoking people in the region on Monday night and Abhilasha Sharma, the District Magistrate of Jamui confirmed her arrest. Pandey is facing charges of making provocative speeches and raising objectionable slogans during the Hanuman Chalisa recital, which allegedly led to a clash between two communities and Pandey and others are accused of organising the event and assembling people without informing the police.

A video of Pandey allegedly giving a hate speech at the event went viral prior to her arrest. Khusbhu who is a Brahmin Hindu and goes by Hindu Sherni on Instagram is the Founder of Veer Jagdamb Sena.

Khushboo Pandey is known as Hindu lioness in Jamui and is a resident of Malaipur. Khushboo is known for her speeches and because of this, people in the area call her Hindu lioness. She is the convenor of Hindu Swabhiman Sangathan.

Sub-Inspector Nandan Rai of Jhajha police station registered a case against seven other named individuals and 50 unknown persons in connection with the incident and after her arrest, Pandey was brought to Sadar Hospital for a medical examination and subsequently presented before the duty magistrate on Monday night, who remanded her to judicial custody.

The event, organised by members of the Hindu Swabhiman organisation, turned violent when a mob attacked the participants with stones and bricks as they were returning from the recital and several individuals, including Jamui Municipal Council Vice President Nitish Kumar Sahu and Pandey, who is widely known as ‘Hindu Sherni,’ sustained serious injuries in the attack.

According to reports, ten people have been taken into custody by the police in Baliadih hamlet, which is near the Jhajha police station, for allegedly stone-throwing who were returning after reciting Hanuman Chalisa. For the second day in a row, Jamui’s internet service was halted.

Khushbu Pandey is the listed accused in the filed FIR, according to the police officer’s knowledge.

According to reports, Khushbu Pandey and her father were taken into custody by the police after they arrived at her home in the Malaypur police station area late at night after obtaining information. However, Khushbu Pandey was taken to jail in judicial custody late on Monday night, while her father, Ashok Pandey, was freed by the police following questioning. However, the police have so far detained nine members of the opposing side.

In this instance, Khushbu Pandey is a listed accused in the assault and stone-pelting case, according to Jhajha SDPO and Rajesh Kumar. Ten people have been arrested and placed in judicial detention in the two cases that have been filed at the Jhajha police station.

To stop misinformation from spreading, the district has shut off its internet access for the second day. According to authorities, the district has restricted internet access for two days in an effort to stop rumours.

About the incident

As Hindu Swabhiman Morcha members were making their way home from reciting Chalisa at a Hanuman temple on Sunday evening, the situation in Baliadih hamlet deteriorated. Following the argument, members of a different group attacked them with sticks and stones, throwing bricks and stones at them.

Nitish Kumar, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and vice president of the Jamui Municipal Council, was hurt in the attack along with two other people. The assault and stone-pelting also caused damage to their vehicles. Following the event, police arrived on the scene, took charge, and filed case number 74/2018 at the Jhajha police station.

In all, 25 FIRs have been filed, with 41 identifiable individuals and 50–60 anonymous individuals accused.
