Sema initially started his career by coming up through the youth system of his hometown club IFK Norrköping. He was eventually promoted to the first-team around 2013 but spent his entire season on loan at IF Sylvia, a third tier team. Sema made 22 appearances for IF Sylvia, where he scored 4 and bagged 4 assist.

After the club did not renew his contract, Sema signed for Swedish second-division club Ljungskile SK in 2014 as a free agent. There, the midfielder spent two years, making 60 Superettan appearances, scoring 11 goals, and bagging 12 assists.

His brilliant form soon saw him join Östersunds FK on January 2016 where he made 84 appearances. The midfield man scored 10 goals and 28 assists for Östersunds across all competitions. One of the highlights of the match was scoring a hat-trick of assists to help Östersunds win the 2016/17 Svenska Cupen.

Another highlight in his career was when he scored a goal against English side Arsenal in the UEFA Europa League.
