Kemi Badenoch or Olukemi Olufunto Adegoke Badenoch, is a British politician who was born on January 2, 1980, in Wimbledon, London, UK. She was born to wealthy Nigerian parents, who worked as a doctor and an academic. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Nigeria. Kemi is currently 44-years-old, and she is the new Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party. Kemi assumed her new office on November 2, 2024, after previously serving in the Cabinet under Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak.
Her father, Femi Adegoke, was a GP and her mother, Feyi Adegoke, was a professor of physiology and she has two other siblings as well.
Though Kemi identifies as agnostic, she describes herself as a cultural Christian, someone who aligns with Christian values without a personal belief.
Education
Kemi Badenoch obtained her education from the University of Sussex, Birkbeck, University of London, where she studied computer systems engineering. She later obtained a law degree from the University of London and briefly worked in financial services.

Political career
Kemi Badenoch started out her political career when she first got elected to the London Assembly in 2015. She later got elected to the British Parliament in 2017, and held a series of government posts in the 2019-22 government under Prime Minister Boris Johnson. However, following a series of ethics scandals against Boris Johnson, she left the party in July 2022.
She then served as trade secretary under the 49-day government of Prime Minister Liz Truss, before going on and serving as business secretary under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Kemi has often referred to her experience of Nigeria’s economic and social upheavals of shaping her political outlook. Moreover, she has also cited in the past how her engineering background is proof that she’s a problem-solver. Badenoch is an open critic of multiculturalism and a self-proclaimed enemy of wokeness. She also strongly opposes “identity politics,” gender-neutral bathrooms and government plans to reduce U.K. carbon emissions.
