Following a series of investigations, the court has officially charged Verdejo with the murder of Rodriguez after he initially turned himself in to the authorities.
Keishla Marlen Rodriguez bio
Keishla Marlen Rodriguez was the pregnant lover of Puerto Rican boxer Felix Verdejo, who was born on November 6, 1993. She went missing for three days in late April 2021, before she was eventually found dead on May 1, 2021. She was 27 years old at the time of her death and worked at an animal grooming business. Authorities found her body in a lagoon in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Saturday, just two days after her family reported her missing. Puerto Rico’s Institute of Forensic Science was able to identify Rodríguez via her dental records.
The case was first reported after Bereliz Nichole, Rodriguez’s sister posted a video on her personal Facebook page to reveal that her sister was missing.
Keishla’s mother shares her account
Following the tragic incident, Keishla’s mother shared her account with the authorities. Keishla’s mother, Keila Ortiz, stated that Rodriguez was pregnant with Verdejo’s child at the time of her murder. She also added that Verdejo was already married but kept in touch with Rodriguez since they knew each other from middle school. According to Keila, her daughter had called her up before she vanished on Thursday. During the call, she told her mother that Verdejo was coming to her house to meet her and check out the results of her pregnancy test.
According to Keila, Verdejo had earlier told her daughter not to have the baby, citing his career and family. As such, she warned her daughter to “be careful” since Verdejo “had already threatened her”. Keila then reported her daughter missing after she did not turn up for her job. She stated that Keila was very responsible about her job and her behavior seemed “super strange”. Keila then proceeded to call up Verdejo who claimed not to know anything about her whereabouts. Keila then recalled telling him:
She talked to me a little while ago, and told me that you were going to her house when you were done working out.”
Felix Verdejo faces multiple charges
After over two years of the tragic murder, the court on Sunday, November 5, 2023, officially charged Verdejo responsible for Keishla Rodriguez’s death. The formal charges against Verdejo include kidnapping resulting in death, carjacking resulting in death, and intentionally killing an unborn child. The FBI also accused Verdejo of punching Rodríguez Ortiz in the face as well as injecting her with a syringe filled with an unidentified substance, in their criminal complaint.
According to a federal criminal complaint, Verdejo and Keishla Rodriguez met up in his black Durango SUV. Verdejo and a witness then tied up her hands and feet with wire and also tied a block to her. The pair then loaded her body into the vehicle, and drove to the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge near San Juan. Verdojo and the other person then tossed Rodríguez into the water, following which she shot at her with a pistol. If found convicted, Verdejo could face the death penalty.

Felix Verdejo is a professional boxer who represented Puerto Rico at the Olympics back in 2012. He competed as a professional boxer in the lightweight division and has a record of 27-2, with 17 knockout wins. Back in 2017, his career was temporarily sidetracked following a motorcycle accident, which got him hospitalized.
