Kayla Han career so far
When the California prodigy was chosen for the USA Swimming Olympic Trials at the age of 12, she first came to the public’s attention in 2021.
Han, who turned 13 before the event began, won the 400m individual medley (IM) B-final, and the victory quickly went viral. She was the youngest athlete in Omaha.
She was not selected for the Tokyo 2020 squad, which competed in 2021, but she persisted in lowering her timings in several events and was able to win the 400m IM silver medal at the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
The 14-year-old swam a time of 4.43.60 in Honolulu, placing her third among American girls her age in history. With times of 4.33.81 and 4.33.96, respectively, Emma Weyant and Hali Flickinger qualified for Tokyo 2020 in the 400 IM for the USA.
Han, who will be 16 at the upcoming USA Olympic Trials in June 2024, appears hovered to contend for a spot at Paris 2024 given her strong year-over-year advancement.
Kim and Daniel Han, the parents of Kayla Han, have supported her throughout her athletic career. That she was going to Omaha for the Olympic Team Trials astounded them both.
Standing about 5-feet tall, Han doesn’t have the Gumby-like arms, broad shoulders or long torso that often mark an elite swimmer.
