Karol Nawrocki career
Karol Nawrocki, 42, is a former heavyweight boxing champion and a right-wing historian. During the election campaign, he received support from Donald Trump, the US president at the time. According to reports, Nawrocki met with Trump in the White House last month, and US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recently urged Poles to back him in order to have close connections with the United States.
In an attempt to improve its reputation, the Law and Justice party selected Nawrocki. Last year, a centrist alliance led by Donald Tusk overthrew the party, which ruled Poland from 2015 until 2023.
Nawrocki oversaw the Institute of National Remembrance, a group that promoted nationalist historical narratives, before entering the presidential race. According to Polish media, he led the charge to demolish Soviet Red Army monuments in Poland, which led to Russia listing him as wanted.
With a focus on Catholicism and patriotism, Nawrocki has positioned himself as a champion of traditional Polish values. He has earned support from individuals who oppose secular tendencies, such as LGBTQ visibility, and his followers see him as a representative of these ideals.
In terms of foreign policy, Nawrocki is skeptical of the European Union and is against Ukraine joining NATO.
Nawrocki says he strongly supports social investment initiatives when it comes to economic issues. Nawrocki vowed to eliminate all overtime labour taxes and concentrate on significant economic investments in a speech where he accepted the Law and Justice’s endorsement of his candidacy.
