Shortly before the subway train arrived at the 18th Street station, 23-year-old Kamel Hawkins was observed pushing a total stranger onto the rails. Hawkins was charged with attempted murder. Social media users commented on the terrifying video of the incident, which went viral, saying that the NYC subway has turned into a refuge for maniacs, with back-to-backstabbing and burning episodes.
Police stated that a man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly pushing a Big Apple straphanger over Manhattan subway lines on Tuesday afternoon, December 31. Kamel Hawkins, age 23, is also accused of second-degree assault.

According to police, Kamel Hawkins is suspected of throwing an unidentified person onto the tracks at the 18th Street station just after 1:30 pm. The victim, a 45-year-old male, appeared to be looking at his phone as his train was approaching the station, while the hooded man wandered the edge of the platform. Hawkins abruptly shoved the man into the tracks. The victim vanished beneath the train.

The victim was hit by an oncoming 1 train, but he survived. Police claimed he had a head injury. Later, Hawkins was busted above ground close to Columbus Circle.
The suspect, Kamel Hawkins, has been charged with attempted murder and was arraigned on Wednesday morning and the victim, Joseph Lynskey, is suffering physically and mentally, a sister of his said.
Joseph who was shoved to the subway tracks in Manhattan and into the path of a moving train suffered a fractured skull, four broken ribs and a ruptured spleen but is in stable condition at the Bellevue Hospital as of Tuesday night.
Surveillance video of the attack shows the victim in a light orange jacket standing near the edge of the southbound platform at the 18th Street station in Chelsea and was looking down at his phone when he was pushed.
Meanwhile, Kamel Hawkins, 23, was charged with attempted murder in the second degree and four counts of assault, according to a criminal complaint filed by Manhattan prosecutors and a judge ordered that Mr. Hawkins be held in jail until his next court date on January 6.
His father, Shamel Spencer, 40, who lives with Hawkins in an apartment in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, said that he was stunned to learn about accusations against his son. He said worried about his son’s mental health who often smoked marijuana, and he wondered whether it had affected his ability to reason.
Spencer also said he had been seeking help for his son, “I just know right now he’s not himself.”

Hawkins has had numerous encounters with the NYPD in the past. He was accused with assault back in June 2019 after he allegedly shoved an officer on Flushing Avenue to the ground. The officer witnessed Hawkins acting erratically, which led to the assault.
The victim’s back was injured. Despite prosecutors’ demands that he be imprisoned in a different case in 2020, he was freed without bond. The allegations in that case, however, are unknown.
