Who is Kalen DeBoer?
American football coach Kalen Douglas DeBoer was born on October 24, 1974 on Milbank, South Dakota, U.S. and he currently serves as the head coach of the University of Alabama.
A look at Kalen DeBoer’s career
In addition to the University of Sioux Falls, DeBoer has held head football coaching positions at California State University, Fresno from 2020 to 2021, the University of Washington from 2022 to 2023, and the University of Sioux Falls from 2005 to 2009.
Following his graduation from the University of Sioux Falls, DeBoer continued to work as an assistant coach at Washington High School in the city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On December 1, 2004, after Young retired, Sioux Falls elevated DeBoer to head coach.
Former NAIA coach DeBoer guided Washington to the national title game in his second season of coaching.
DeBoer was appointed head football coach at California State University, Fresno in 2020. He guided the Bulldogs to a 3–3 record during the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened season. DeBoer was appointed by the University of Washington as their head football coach on November 29, 2021.
DeBoer accepted an invitation to take over as head coach of the University of Alabama on January 12, 2024.

DeBoer would owe Washington $12 million as part of a buyout in a contract extension he signed with the university in November and is likely to be paid $10 per year at Alabama.
After Washington went 11-2 in 2022, Kalen DeBoer signed an extension with them that increased his compensation to $4.2 million with further rises to $4.8 million in the last year of the contract (2028).
It also included a $12 billion buyout increase if DeBoer left to take a new position. The Huskies offered him a seven-year contract with an average of $9.4 million a year, according to the person, who was reported by news agency AP.
