Who is K Sivan?
K Sivan is a renowned Indian space scientist. He has been in the news because India’s ambitious Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the moon.
His full name is Kailasavadivoo Sivan. He was born on 14 April 1957 in Mela Sarakkalvilai, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India. His father is Kailasavadivoo, a mango farmer, and his mother is Chellam, a homemaker. He also has three siblings: one brother and two sisters.
K Sivan attended a Tamil-medium government school in the village of Mela Sarakkalvilai before transferring to Vallankumaranvilai in the Kanyakumari district. Subsequently, in 1980, he received his bachelor’s in aeronautical engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology. Later, in 1982, he earned a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.
In addition, he got his doctorate in aeronautical engineering in 2006 from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He is a Fellow of the Systems Society of India, the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and the Indian Aeronautical Society.
K Sivan is married, and his wife’s name is Malathi Sivan. The couple also has two sons named Sushanth and Siddharth.
He is currently 66 years old.
His career
K Sivan served as the Indian Space Research Organization’s chairman as well as the Department of Space’s secretary. In addition, he formerly held the positions of director at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Center and Vikram Sarabhai Space Center.
Dr. K Sivan got a monthly salary of Rs. 2.50 lacs per annum from ISRO as the chairman.
K Sivan (full name Kailasavadivoo Sivan) served as Chairman Of India’s Space Commission and of the ISRO from January 2018 to January 2022 and his journey with the premier space exploration body began in 1982.
