KM Joseph is the former chief justice of Uttarakhand High Court and he earlier was appointed as chief justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand on 31 July in 2014. Mathew served as a judge of the Kerala High Court for 9 years.

KM was born on the 17th of June in 1958 and presently his age is 64 years as of 2023. Nothing is known about his wife. He is a Christian by religion.

KM Joseph’s family and education

KM Joseph hails from Kottayam, Kerala, India. He was born to K. K. Mathew and Ammini Tharakan. His father K. K. Mathew was also a judge at Supreme Court and he was the chairman of the tenth Law Commission. Mathew finished his education at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kochi, and New Delhi.

Later on, he attended Loyola College, Chennai, and Ernakulam’s Government Law School.

KM Joseph career

KM Joseph enrolled himself as an Advocate on the 12th of January in 1982 and he began practicing at the Delhi High Court. Later he shifted his practice to the High Court of Kerala, Ernakulam in early 1983.

Kuttiyil was appointed as the permanent judge of the Kerala High Court on 14th October 2004. On the 18th of July in 2014, the President of India appointed Joseph as the next Chief Justice of Uttarakhand. On the 31st of July 2014, he was sworn in as the 9th Chief Justice of Uttarakhand at the Nainital High Court.

On the 29th of March 2023, he was listening to a petition which alleged hate speeches made against the Muslims in the rallies all across Maharashtra. The Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that the court should also consider other instances of hate speech and it has also been pointed out, a DMK leader has called for the butchering of the Brahmins.

Justice Joseph laughed and asked if Mehta knew about Periyar. The observations which have been made by him are being shared on social media handles owing to the disdain he showed over calls to kill Hindus.
