Who is BV Nagarathna?
BV Nagarathna is a well-known judge of the Supreme Court of India. She has been in the news because she is going to be India’s first female Chief Justice in 2027.
Her full name is Bangalore Venkataramiah Nagarathna. She was born on October 30, 1962, in Pandavapura, Mysore State, India. Her father’s name is E.S. Venkataramiah who was the 19th Chief Justice of India.
She attended the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in New Delhi for her education. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history from Jesus and Mary College in New Delhi later that year. She eventually went on to obtain a law degree from the University of Delhi’s Faculty of Law.
She is married to B. N. Gopala Krishna. She is currently 60 years old.
His Career
Justice BV Nagarathnaย became a member of the Karnataka Bar Council in 1987 and worked as a constitutional and business lawyer in Bangalore until being chosen in 2008 to serve as an extra judge on the Karnataka High Court. On February 17, 2010, she was selected to serve as a permanent judge.
A number of analysts noted that B.V. Nagarathna’s potential nomination to the Supreme Court of India in May 2020 would put her in the running to become the first female chief judge of the Indian Supreme Court.
She was named a judge of the Supreme Court of India on August 26, 2021, and she took her oath on August 31, 2021. She will succeed as India’s first female Chief Justice in 2027.
