The main draw of the World Indoor Bowls Championships 2025 is currently underway and veteran star, age 56 Julie Forrest is out making waves, find out more about her below

The tournament is currently taking place at the iconic Potters Resorts Hopton-on-Sea in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

This year’s competition marks the 26th year of the World Indoor Bowls Championships.

Age 56 Julie Forrest edged out Scottish compatriot Beth Riva to win the women’s singles title at the World Indoor Bowls Championships 2025 in Norfolk as she triumphed 11-8 8-9 2-0 to win the title for the third time after singles successes at Yarmouth in 2019 and 2020.

“I dug deep again. It was a matter of keeping my head and keep going. My brother-in-law died six months ago and I felt he was here with me. I feel he was there getting me through the games,” she said after her win which saw her bag 50,000 pounds.

Julie Forrest bio

Julie Forrest is a Scottish professional bowls player who was born on November 3, 1968 in Scotland. She is currently 56 years old and participates in both the indoor as well as outdoor disciplines of the sport. Julie is a member of what was formerly called the Teviotdale Indoor Bowls Club in the Scottish Borders. She has notably gone on to win the club championship a total of 14 times.

While she is married, the names of her husband and family members aren’t known.

Julie Forrest Stadium

Back in 2022, the famous Teviotdale arena, where Julie trains, was renamed in honour of her. It is now called the Julie Forrest Stadium. Following the change, Julie told the BBC:

This is surreal. This place has been my second home for so long. I want to finish at the top and that will likely be in the next couple of years.”

She added:

I don’t want to be one of those players that slowly slides down the rankings. One thing is for sure, I will keep playing bowls here at the Julie Forrest Stadium for as long as I can.”

Career and achievements

Julie Forrest has had quite a notable career winning all kinds of achievements and awards. She is an Honorary Life Member of the Scottish Indoor Bowling Association (SIBA). She has been playing with the Tiger Bowls ever since 2003. Back in 2016, Julie finished as the runner-up at the World Indoor Bowls Championship in the mixed pairs. She then won her third world indoor title alongside Stewart Anderson in 2021, and then again in 2024.

Her biggest wins in the sport came back in 2019 and 2020 after she won the women’s singles titles at the World Indoor Bowls Championships. Throughout her career, Julie has won seven IIBC indoor titles, including four ladies’ singles titles and three mixed pairs titles. Julie also won the last three editions of the WBT Scottish Women’s Masters. She is also a three-time British Isles indoor champion and won the women’s singles at the inaugural World Bowls Indoor Championships in Bristol in 2022.
