Shahin defeated Rupanshi of Himachal Pradesh handily in the final to earn the gold medal in the 57kg division at the Khelo India Youth Games.

Shahin holds four medals from the Khelo India Youth Games: two gold, one silver, and one bronze. She most recently won a silver medal in the Asian Junior Judo Championship in Tashkent. Last year, she grabbed gold medals at the junior National Championships and the Cadet Nationals. Her goal is now to represent India on highest levels. After winning the final at Khelo India, she, as per My Khel stated:

It was an easy bout for me. The opponent did not trouble me as I had experience in four Khelo India competitions. It was my opponent’s first Khelo India final. I was in complete control of the bout right from the beginning. Happy that my Khelo India journey comes to an end with a gold.”

Who is Shahin Darjada?

Shahin Darjada is an Indian Judoka who hails from Jambur, popularly known as the “Mini Africa” of India. The 18-year-old is currently studying in class 12th in the Somnath Academy in her village.

She was introduced to sports academy by her father while she had to idea about which sport she should chose to follow ahead. It all started from DLSS (District Level Sports School) where she got first interested into Judo. She later joined an academy in Nadiad, Gujarat where else spent five years and won her first KIYG gold.

Her performance got enhanced when she joined Vijayi Bharat Sports Academy (VBSA) in Ahmedabad where she shifted for training in the year 2022 and improved a lot.

Who is Shahin Darjada’s coach?

Shahin Darjada was coached under Lasa Kizilashvili from Georgia at Vijayi Bharat Sports Academy (VBSA) in Ahmedabad. The teenage Judoka improved a lot after receiving training from her. Her coach said, as per the above-mentioned outlet:

She trains hard at the academy. She follows every instruction given to her. A promising future lies before her. If you ask me, she is an Olympic material.”

Lal Krishnan Baghel is also one of her coaches whom she mentioned after the Khelo India Youth Games final win for being “very supportive”.
