16-year-old Linthoi Chanambam hails from Manipur and defeated Brazil’s Bianca Reis in the final to finish on top of the podium in the women’s category of 57kg which was contested at the Arena Hotel Hills.

“I really don’t have the words and cannot explain how I am feeling right now. I only know that I’m very happy with this victory, and I hope to build on this,” statement given by Linthoi, after her feat.
In July, she achieved gold and opened in India’s medal account on the third day of the Asian Cadet and Junior Judo Championship held in year 2022 in Bangkok.
Linthoi claimed her gold medal in the category 63kg category of the cadet event. She is considered as one of India’s brightest prospects on the Judo mat. Linthoi first showed glimpses of her talent when she won gold at the Sub-junior National Championships in the year 2018.
A part of the IIS’ judo program since year 2017, she has been on numerous exposure trips under the guidance of head coach Mamuka Kizilashvili, including the camps at the University of Tsukuba, in Japan as well as Georgia. Linthoi is 57 kgs in weight whereas her height is 159 cm. She was born in 2006 on 11th April.
She was born in Mayang Imphal, around 25km from state capital Imphal and is a Hindu by religion.
In November 2021, Linthoi won a gold medal at the National Championships held in Chandigarh. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) took note of the young athlete’s remarkable achievement on Friday.
