Although, there aren’t much information available about Justice Vibhu Bakhru, however, as per the official website of the Delhi State Legal Service Authority, born in Nagpur in 1966, Justice Vibhu Bakhru, completed his schooling at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, New Delhi.
The current CJI of Delhi H.C. earned a bachelor’s degree in B.Com (Hons.) from Delhi University in 1987.
At the same time, he trained himself as a Chartered Accountant and qualified by clearing his final examination in 1989 and commenced his articles with Thakur Vadiyanathaiyan & Company. He subsequently obtained his Law degree in L.L.B. in 1990 and later enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi in September in the same year.
His wife Pallavi Joshi Bakhru, aged 53 years, is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and Member of Indian Institute.
He has a son named Anirudh Bakhru and a daughter Vasundhara Bakhru.
Career
He began his legal career practicing at the Delhi High Court, the Company law board, and various other tribunals. After being recognized for his legal acumen, Vibhu Bakhru was designated as a senior advocate in 2011 by the Delhi High Court.
Bakhru’s judicial career began with being appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2013. Later, after two years, in 2015, he was elevated as a Permanent Judge.
Currently, he has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, succeeding Chief Justice Manmohan, whose elevation to the Supreme Court was approved on December 3, 2024.
This appointment was made by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu under Article 223 of the Constitution, effective from the date Justice Manmohan relinquishes his charge following his Supreme Court appointment.
For the curious, Justice Manmohan was born in Delhi on December 17, 1962. He earned a bachelor’s degree in B.A. (Hons.) from the Hindu College, Delhi University and later he secured a law degree from the Campus Law Centre, DU.
