Under the direction of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that Dr. Justice B R Sarangi be appointed Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.

Justice Sarangi’s judicial career commenced in June 2013 when he was promoted to the rank of Judge of the Orissa High Court, capping an impressive 27-year tenure as a barrister before both the upper and lower courts.
In recognition of Justice BR Sarangi’s noteworthy contributions to the legal field, the SC Collegium noted that in his more than 10 years as a High Court judge, he has authored an astounding total of more than 1,056 recorded decisions.
In its statement, the Collegium stressed that it was aware of the seniority of judges at the Orissa High Court and mentioned that Justice Sarangi’s appointment as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court was recommended, taking into account the fact that the Chief Justices of other high courts do not represent the Orissa High Court.
Drawing attention to the upcoming vacancy that would arise from Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra’s retirement, the Collegium stated that it believes that Dr. Justice BR Sarangi is qualified and appropriate in every way to take over as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand.

B R Sarangi is a renowned Indian judge. He has been in the news because he has been recommended to be appointed Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.
He was born on 20 July 1962 in Odagaon, Nayagarh. His father is the late Banchanidhi Sarangi, an ax-financial advisor belonging to senior class-I of the Orissa finance service cadre of the state of Odisha, and his mother is the late Sailabala Sarangi, a housewife.
B R Sarangi is married, and his wife’s name is Nirupama Sarangi, an advocate of the Orissa High Court. The couple has two daughters named Dr. Debarchita and Debasmita.
After passing the H.S.C. exam, he attended B.J.B. College in Bhubaneswar to study commerce with honors. Later, he earned an LL.B. and an LL.M. from Utkal University, Vanivihar, and Bhubaneswar’s M.S. Law College in Cuttack. Later, he was also awarded a Ph.D. in law from Sambalpur University.
He is currently 63 years old.
His career
After 27 years of regular practice at the bar before the Supreme Court and the Orissa High Court, BR Sarangi was promoted as a judge of the Odisha High Court on 20 June 2013. He handled matters in practically every area of the law.
During his more than ten years as a High Court judge, he has written over 1056 reported decisions, which is his contribution to the judiciary in terms of case resolution. In the High Court, he has gained a great deal of expertise in administering justice.
