Juan Carlos Garca, the former CEO of Amazon Mexico, was charged in court on June 6 with paying $9,000 to two hitmen to assassinate his ex-wife, Abril Pérez Sagaón, in November 2019. A guy on a motorbike shot her in the head and neck through the passenger-side window of a car she was riding in while travelling through Mexico City.

The accused, who became Amazon’s CEO in Mexico when the corporation built its first office in Mexico in 2015, has also been accused of offering another $2,500 if the hitmen murdered her before her next court hearing in a complaint she brought against him. The wife accused Garcia of attempting to murder her while they were still married, and Garca fled to the United States before the trial for her case began. Garcia had a restraining order against his wife, who had migrated from Mexico City to the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León.

Pérez travelled from Nuevo Leon to a private hospital in Mexico City after a court-ordered a psychiatric assessment as part of the inquiry into her charges against Garcia. According to Pérez’s evidence in court, as reported by El Pais, she was asleep in their shared residence in January 2019 when a hit to the head woke her up.

She claimed to have seen Garcia standing in front of her, holding a baseball bat. She then testified that she was injured in the face with a sharp instrument and that Garcia tried to strangle her before their kid pulled Garcia away and Pérez escaped via a window.

Garcia was temporarily imprisoned and then released when a court determined there was insufficient evidence to prove he intended to murder her. The allegations were classed as familial violence by the judge. On November 25, 2019, while her car stopped at a signal on the way back to the airport with her attorney and two teenage boys, a guy on a motorbike came and shot her in the head at close range.

Nobody else in the automobile was hurt. However, the wife passed away. Following her assassination, Garcia wrote a letter to Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, claiming innocence. While his exact age isn’t known, he is aged between 40-45 years and has a net worth of $10 million.
