Sanket Upadhyay is an Indian journalist who was born in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, in a Brahim Hindu household immersed in journalism. His father, Madhuker Upadhyay, is also a respected journalist who notably worked for Hindi BBC Radio in both London and Delhi. He has a sister named Sanchita as well.
Madhuker also worked as a professor at the National Tribal University. Sanket developed an interest in storytelling and current affairs at an early age, which led him to pursue journalism professionally.
The 42 year old born on 16 July, 1982 stands at a height of 5 feet 7 inches.
Education
Sanket attended Delhi Public School (DPS) in Noida during his early years, before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Delhi University.
Career
Sanket Upadhyay started out his journalism career back in 2003 as a staff writer for the Hindustan Times, alongside Palki Sharma. Two years later, he joined NDTV as a correspondent, before quickly rising up the ranks and becoming the Lucknow bureau head for NDTV’s English channel. Three years later, in 2008, Sanket joined Times Now as Deputy News Editor, where he worked for six years. Sanket earned him a loyal viewership for his crisp analysis and no-nonsense delivery while at Times Now.

By 2014, Sanket joined Network 18 Media as the Deputy Executive Editor and hosted the network’s flagship debate show, The Big Debate. Sanket eventually returned to NDTV in 2019 as a Consulting Editor, and hosted several prime-time shows like ‘Muqabala’ in Hindi, ‘The Big Fight’ in English and ‘Khabaron Ki Khabar’. He eventually left NDTV in 2023, and co-founded The Red Mike with Sunil Saini and Saurabh Shukla in December later that year. The platform currently has over 946K subscribers, and aims to revive meaningful journalism.
