Josh Maravich, a 42-year-old former LSU basketball player, passed away unexpectedly in Covington, Louisiana, the university announced on Sunday. He was the son of Pete Maravich, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
However, the University did not reveal any cause of death so far. They paid tribute to the former on their social media writing, “LSU Basketball extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Josh Maravich.”
Maravich, who held the record for most points scored in the NCAA, received fresh attention when Iowa’s Caitlin Clark surpassed him earlier this year.

Josh Maravich was a former LSU basketball player and son of late Hall of Famer Pete Maravich. He was born on March 25, 1982, in Covington, Louisiana, United States. The 6’3” tall former played as a guard.
He died at home on Friday, the LSU statement said but no cause of death has been released.
Maravich played for four seasons in Baton Rouge from 2001 to 2005, carrying on his legendary father’s legacy.
Josh excelled as a player at Covington’s St. Paul’s before coming to LSU. He scored more than a thousand points in his high school career. In his final season, he averaged eighteen points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game, which won him the district MVP award.
Josh was there in July 2022, outside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, for the unveiling of his father’s statue.

Pete was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987. Before injuries ended his career, he was one of the most creative offensive players in NBA history and a star at LSU.
Josh is survived by his mother Jackie, her husband James and brother. He was believed to be single and unmarried.
