Joseph Watts, a resident of Dalston, Hackney, came before the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court and admitted to assaulting Ramsdale with a flying kick. Also, he acknowledged throwing four pennies onto the playing field during the game. The offences committed by Watts were listed in a statement made by the police.

Official statement

The declaration read, “After a match on Sunday, January 15, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a man has been accused of attacking an Arsenal player. On Tuesday, January 17, Joseph Watts, 35 (23.06.87) of Hackney was charged with assault by beating, entering a space next to a playing area, and hurling a projectile onto a football field—both in violation of the Football (Offenses) Act of 1991.”

Returning to the game, the incident occurred when Tottenham forward Richarlison and Ramsdale got into a fight in the closing seconds of the contest, necessitating the intervention of the grounds crew. Fans jumped to the ground during the violent exchange, including Joseph Watts, who was seen kicking the Arsenal gloveman. However, players from both the side tried to calm the situation.

Response from Ramsdale

Ramsdale responded to the incident by saying that he had been arguing with Spurs supporters all game long but had never anticipated it would escalate into a fight. He continued by calling the incident despicable. He stated: “All throughout the game, the Spurs supporters gave me some. I was returning some.”

It is unfortunate because, at the end of the day, it is only a football game. Fortunately, nothing too serious occurred since both groups of players tried to calm the atmosphere and control the situation.
