Authorities have allegedly arrested a man named Joseph Kling for igniting wooden pallets in the woods and walking away. Kling’s actions eventually led to a massive forest fire, which seemingly spread uncontrollably, causing a major catastrophe. Police officers arrested him at the Ocean Township Police Department and charged him with aggravated arson. According to the New Jersey Forest Service, the wildfire first started out at the Cedar Bridge Fire Tower in Barnegat Township before spreading out.

Authorities have reportedly charged Joseph Kling with arson and made him appear in court via video for a preliminary hearing. Following which the prosecutors requested to hold him without bail until his formal detention hearing scheduled for April 29.
According to official investigation reports, the fire destroyed at least one commercial building and endangered over 1,300 other structures. Moreover, it also caused power outages and air quality concerns as far as New York City and Long Island. Despite the widespread damage, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities so far. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is still on high alert as they continue containment efforts.

According to reports, he had recently been unemployed and often spent his time outdoors.
