After being fired mid-season in 2021, McMillan began as the Hawks’ interim coach and led Atlanta to the Eastern Conference finals. He finished with a 99-80 record.
Even though the Hawks only have 23 games left, team executives think there is still time for them to improve and move up the standings. Atlanta is in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 29–30. The New York Knicks, who are now in sixth position, are only 3½ games ahead of the Hawks.
In July 2021, Prunty, 54, was hired by the Hawks as an assistant coach. Except for two times when he served as Milwaukee’s interim head coach and went 29-25, he has been an assistant NBA coach since 1996.
Between 1999 and 2005, he served as an assistant coach in San Antonio for three NBA championship teams.

Joe Prunty, an American basketball professional and interim head coach of the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), was born on February 12, 1969 and he is currently 54 years old.
He previously worked as the Milwaukee Bucks’ interim head coach in 2018 and was in charge of the Great Britain men’s national basketball team from June 2013 to September 2017.
Prunty, 54, is from Fremont, California and played college basketball at De Anza College and began his coaching career at the University of San Diego.
