After taking up the role from Ime Udoka, Joe has done a great job with the Boston Celtics this season. So good that in fact they team have hired him on a permanent basis.
Joe Mazzulla brief bio and early coaching career
Joe Mazzulla is the new head coach of the Boston Celtics who was born in 1988. As such, he is currently only 34-years-old, which makes him around the same age as some veteran NBA players. Joe started out playing college basketball at West Virginia and even helped the side reach the NCAA finals.
Unfortunately, for Mazzulla, his playing career never really took off following several injuries. He had a problem with his shoulder, which didn’t attach well to his growth plate properly. This problem kept him out of action for one full college season.
Although Mazzulla never really stopped playing, he decided to focus instead on coaching after he graduated from college. He coached at several institutions like Glenville State University and Fairmont State University. Mazzulla even coached an NBA G League team for a short period of time.
While Joe Mazzulla’s salary hasn’t been publicly revealed, he will most likely make around $2 to $3 million with the Celtics.
This is not Mazzulla’s first coaching gig and efore replacing Udoka, he served as an assistant coach for the Celtics for almost four years and also had a lot of experience coaching G League and college teams.
Considering all the jobs he’s had in the past, Joe Mazzulla’s net worth is estimated at around $5 million in 2023 with him married to Camai Mazzulla.
He is the son of basketball coach Dan Mazzulla, who played college basketball at Bryant and professionally for five years in Chile and in 2007, Dan was inducted into the Bryant Hall of Fame and died of cancer in April 2020.

Seeing Mazzulla’s ability to carry all the teams he previously coached to stellar records, the Celtics took interest in him. The Celtics eventually hired him as an assistant coach back in 2019. Mazzulla finally stepped up to take the head coach role in the 2022-2023 after the Celtics suspended Ime Udoka.
Ever since he took up the role, the Celtics have been on a good record – 42 wins and 17 losses. In fact, this record is currently the best record in the entire NBA. Besides taking up the new Head coach role, Mazzulla will also coach Team Giannis in the upcoming 2023 NBA All-Star game.
