Among the mourners stood Ghulam Hassan Bhat, a retired senior police officer who bid his beloved son a final farewell amidst tears and sorrow.
DySP Humayun Bhat’s father Ghulam Hassan Bhat was an Inspector General of Police. He served the state of Jammu & Kashmir until his retirement in 2018. His commitment and dedication to maintaining law and order left an indelible mark on the force.
Humayun, following in his father’s footsteps, joined the force in 2018 as part of the JKAS officers’ batch.
The Kokernag gunfight claimed the lives of Humayun and two other valiant officers. The sacrifice of these brave individuals serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by those who stand at the forefront of the battle against insurgency and terrorism.
Amidst the gathering of high-ranking officers and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Ghulam Hassan Bhat paid his respects to his son during the wreath-laying ceremony. The weight of the moment was palpable as a father bid his beloved son a “last salute” at the District Police Lines Srinagar.
His gesture reflected the immense pride and heartrending loss experienced by a father who had seen his son follow a path of service.
Humayun was a devoted husband and a new father. He welcomed his first child into the world just a month before the tragic incident. The joy that should have filled their home was instead replaced by profound sorrow. The young child who will grow up without the physical presence of his heroic father will undoubtedly come to know of the legacy of service and sacrifice.
The names of his wife and two month daughter aren’t known. Humayun was a Muslim by religion.
The sacrifice of DySP Humayun Bhat along with his comrades serves as a reminder of the relentless challenges faced by the security forces in Jammu & Kashmir. Their courage and dedication to the unwavering commitment to peace and security in the region.
