Jim Schwartz was born on June 2, 1966 in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew up playing football while attending the all-male Catholic Mount Saint Joseph High School. While attending the Georgetown University Hoyas to acquire his economics degree, Schwartz played as the linebacker for four years as a varsity athlete.

Career

Schwartz began his career in the NFL during the middle of the 1990s. He started out by conducting research on the Cleveland Browns staff for Bill Belichick. Following that, he served as the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans from 2001 until 2008.

While working with Tennessee, Schwartz was under consideration for a number of NFL head coaching positions. In 2005, he ran for the post of head coach for the San Francisco 49ers, but lost to Mike Nolan.

On January 15, 2009, Schwartz became the head coach of the Detroit Lions and registered a 2-14 record during the first season. It included victories over the Cleveland Browns and the Washington Redskins.

Despite starting with a 2-10 record during the 2010 season under Schwartz, the Lions under Schwartz went on to win four straight games against the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins, and Minnesota Vikings.

Soon after, another NFL franchise, the Buffalo Bills hired Schwartz as their defensive coordinator on January 24, 2014. With the Buffalo Bills, Schwartz had the best defence in the NFL statistically.

Schwartz then moved on the Philadelphia Eagles on January 19, 2016, to serve as the defensive coordinator for coach Doug Pederson.
