Sheinbaum had said in an interview with the local media outlet W Radio that she would marry Tarriba in 2022 while she was still serving as the head of government of Mexico City. The two met while pursuing a degree in physics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Tarriba graduated from UNAM in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in physics and in 1989 with a master’s degree in science. In 1994, he obtained his Doctorate in Science from UNAM.
Sheinbaum mentioned that the two had been lovers during their undergraduate studies before parting ways. According to her LinkedIn page, the presidential candidate reconnected with Tarriba in 2016 while he was employed at Banco Santander in Spain. At the time, she had already separated from her former spouse, the activist and scholar Carlos Ímaz Gispert, and was serving as mayor of Tlalpan.
Jesús María Tarriba career
Jesús María Tarriba specialises in Financial Risks and has worked for financial establishments in both Spain and Mexico. Tarriba, following Sheinbaum’s victory, will be the first knight from Mexico.
In 1993, Tarriba started working for the market research company GAUSSC. However, a year later, he started working in the financial industry, from which he has never left.
Based on his LinkedIn page, Tarriba is employed as a Financial Risk Specialist at the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) at present. Since 2017, he has held that role before Sheinbaum was appointed head of state of the nation’s capital.
Tarriba’s particular role is speciality leader for the Financial System Risk Analysis Management at Banco de México, according to his 2023 financial statement.
He held the position of technical director of the United Advisors Group (GAUSSC), “a company dedicated to measuring reality” that provides statistical data analysis, market research, and public opinion surveys.
