NBC Sports California has appointed Jenny Cavnar, a seasoned baseball broadcaster, as the Oakland Athletics’ primary play-by-play announcer.

The news was made by the corporation on Tuesday. Cavnar will be the voice of the A’s for the majority of the 2024 season, making history as the first female major league play-by-play announcer.

After Glen Kuiper was banned and then fired for using a racial slur over the radio during the A’s game against the Kansas City Royals on May 5, she takes over as the interim voice of Johnny Doskow and Vince Cotroneo. Cavnar will team up with the team’s NBC Sports California broadcasts alongside former Major League Baseball pitcher Dallas Braden.

Jenny Cavnar is an American sportscaster who was born on July 16 1982 in Aurora, Colorado, U.S. and is a play-by-play announcer on television for the Major League Baseball (MLB) Oakland Athletics.
Jenny Cavnar’s education and career
Cavnar was a student at Smoky Hill High School. Watching Melissa Stark on Monday Night Football during her junior year of college gave Cavnar the idea to pursue a career in sports reporting. She graduated in 2004 from Colorado State University with a concentration in business and communications.
At Colorado State, Cavnar participated in club lacrosse. She worked as a public relations intern in the University of Kentucky throughout her time in college.
Jenny Cavnar’s parents
Jenny was born to her mother Donna and father Steve. She is not the only kid of her parents. She is the youngest of their two children. Jenny has an elder brother named Jason who is a former coach for high school baseball.
In addition to coaching the baseball teams at Regis Jesuit High School and Smoky Hill High School, her father, Steve, was a Smoky Hill High School graduate who also won the state championship in high school baseball.

Jenny Cavnar is married to Steve Spurgeon who is a former baseball player for Chicago White Sox and is a member of the Denver Fire Department. The two welcomed two children together named Vincent and Emmery.
