She completed her high school from Rockingham County (Wentworth, North Carolina) and her college from Guilford (2002–2006) Liberty University (2014–2016) graduating with with a Master of Science degree in sports management.

King was a quarterback and receiver for the Carolina Phoenix in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) from 2006 to 2017, a defensive back and receiver for the New York Sharks in 2018, and a safety for the D.C. Divas in 2019.

She was initially hired by the Carolina Panthers in 2018 as a coaching intern. When she was elevated to the Washington Commanders’ assistant running backs coach in 2021, she became the first Black woman to be made a full-time NFL coach.
