Indian drivers in the F1
Up until now, the F1 has had only two Indian drivers so far. The two drivers are Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok, who both drove between 2005 and 2011 and have a combined 59 race starts in the sport.
Karthikeyan was the first Indian F1 race driver, driving for the Jordan Grand Prix team before joining Williams. While, Chandhok never obtained a single World Championship point, Karthikeyan picked up five during his F1 career. All of them came at the 2005 United States Grand Prix where he finished P4.
However, one major fact behind that finish was that 14 fellow drivers didn’t even start that race following a dispute with tyre manufacturer Michelin.
In recent years, Chandhok made a return to the spotlight in the sport and currently features on Sky Sports’ F1 coverage in the UK every race day. He offers valuable insight on the drivers and tracks to fans on the show.
