A 18-year-old Jaylen Smith, is making headlines after he became the Youngest Black Mayor in the history of the United States, know his age and education

For those who are unaware of the situation, let us tell you, the City of Earle, Arkansas, has seen an election poll on Tuesday, December 6, as the citizens went to the polls to select their next Mayor in the runoff election.

As per reports, a 18-year-old candidate emerged as the winner as he defeated his opponent Nemi Matthews Sr. and became the first ever Youngest Black Mayor.

The media and news company, Pop Crave, took to their official Twitter handle to congratulate the Youngest Mayor as they stated, “18-year-old Jaylen Smith has been elected the mayor of Earle, Arkansas on Tuesday night, becoming the youngest Black mayor in the United States.”

The company further added, “Smith won the election with 218 votes, compared to his competitor’s 139.”

Let us remind you Earle is a small city in Crittenden County, Arkansas with a population of around 1,831 as of the 2020 census.

Who’s Jaylen Smith?

For those who are unfamiliar with Jaylen Smith, let us tell you, the Youngest Mayor of the Earle was born in 2004.

The Arkansas’ native went to Earle High School and graduated in May, this year. He had been keen towards the election of Mayor.

In 2020, Smith started working at the Eternal Light Funeral Service, which is a Funeral home in Marianna, Arkansas.

After his victory in the run-off elections, Smith took to his Facebook and thanked the citizens of the city as he stated, “Citizens of Earle, Arkansas, it’s official!!

“I am your newly elected mayor of Earle, Arkansas… “It’s Time to Build a Better Chapter of Earle, Arkansas.”

He further added, “That means improving our public safety, beautifying the city, abandon houses, new housing, transportation, new businesses, grocery store, water systems, flooding problems, streets, etc.

“Also implementing police safety plans, fire safety plans, emergency plans for storms such as tornadoes, snow, flooding, fires, shootings, and re-implementing our curfews.”
