“Along with the State Government and concerned specialists, the Navy has deputed a team to immediately investigate the cause of this unfortunate accident and initiate steps to repair, restore and reinstate the statue at the earliest,” they said.

Strong winds caused damage to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue, according to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He also promised to determine the precise cause of the statue’s collapse. The Maharashtra government, Shinde continued, will investigate the circumstances surrounding this occurrence and replace the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in its original location.

The daily newspaper Sanatan Prabhat published a special interview with sculptor Jaydeep Apte after the unveiling, in which he provided details on the statue’s construction. The Indian Navy assigned 24-year-old artist Jaydeep Apte of Kalyan, Thane district, the task of creating the 28-foot-tall bronze statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Jaydeep Apte revealed in his interview with Sanatan Prabhat that it usually takes three years to build a statue this size made of bronze. On the other hand, this statue was completed in December 2023, significantly sooner than typical, having started in June 2023. Since then, Apte has been the subject of accusations that he performed subpar work when building the enormous statue.

A revelation by Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamana claims that local MP Shrikant Shinde and CM Shinde’s son is a friend of the contractor and sculptor of the statue, Jaydeep Apte of Kalyan.
