In 1996, at Venezuela’s Santa Rita and La Rinconada racetracks, Javier Castellano started his remarkable riding career. He made the decision to immigrate to the United States in 1997, and after beginning to ride at several race tracks in southern Florida, he switched to the New York State racing circuit in 2001.

His first significant triumph came in 2004 when he rode Frank Stronach’s colt Ghostzapper to victory in a number of important contests, including the Breeders’ Cup Classic. In addition to numerous honors, his performance earned him the 2004 Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year.
