Sachin Yadav, a javelin thrower, won the All India Police Athletics Championships 2024 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in this city with a winning throw of 84.21 meters, his best throw, continuing his outstanding performance this year.
Uttar Pradesh police Constable Sachin Yadav shattered the 30-year-old javelin record at the police athletic meet and his performance surpassed the previous record of 79.68m established by Satbir Singh of Punjab police in 1994.

The throw by Sachin Yadav at the All India Police Athletics Championships ranked him sixth among India’s greatest javelin throwers ever. The top of the list is double Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra (89.94m), followed by silver medallist Kishore Jena (87.54m) at the Asian Games, Shivpal Singh (86.23m), Davinder Kang (84.57m), and DP Manu (84.35m).
Yadav set a meet record and set a personal best while representing the Uttar Pradesh Police. In 1994, Punjab Police’s Satbir Singh set the previous mark with a throw of 79.68 meters. He first threw 83.43 meters, then 84.21 meters, breaking the meet record twice. His other four tries were fouled. Manjinder Singh of the CRPF placed third (74.68m), while Arun Baby of Kerala ended well behind in second place (76.34m).
This year, Yadav, 24, has been playing well. With a throw of 79.80 meters, he took second place at the National Open meet in Bengaluru, trailing only gold medallist Vikrant Malik’s 80.02 meters. This comes after Yadav qualified with a time of 80.04 meters. He ran 82.69 meters at the Indian Grand Prix-3 in Bengaluru.

According to Yadav who has a height of 6 feet 4 inches, his goal is to earn a spot at the world athletics championships in Japan the following year. 85.50 meters is the entrance standard. He may also try to get in by looking at international rankings.

Hailing from Khekra village of Baghpat district next to eastern peripheral expressway and some 18 km away from Delhi border, Sachin is a Constable in the Uttar Pradesh Police.
Javelin was introduced to Sachin in 2019 by Head Constable Sandeep Yadav with him eventually making the shift from cricket to javelin. Sachin’s parents are Naresh and Sita Yadav with him having a brother named Vipin Yadav and a sister as well with his parents farmers.

Prince Kumar of the Uttar Pradesh Police broke a 46-year-old record in the 5,000-meter race. His winning time of 13:58.56 seconds beat the previous record of 14:08.08 seconds, which was achieved by CRPF late distance running great Hari Chand in 1978.
Kerala Police’s Athira Somaraj stole the show in the high jump, clearing 1.77 meters, shattering the previous mark of 1.76 meters established by AK Deepa (CRPF) in 1999.
