Keshorn “Keshie” Walcott, ORTT is a Trinbagonian track and field athlete who was born on April 2, 1993, in Toco, Trinidad and Tobago. He currently competes in the javelin throw event, and is an Olympic champion who gold in London 2012 Olympics. Notably, Keshorn is the first Caribbean male athlete, and the first athlete of African descent, to win a gold medal in a throwing event in Olympics history.
Keshorn was born to parents, Beverly Walcott, and Endy King, and has a brother named Elton Walcott. Despite his success in javelin throw, Keshorn didn’t start playing until he was 15, and instead grew up playing football and cricket.

Keshorn Walcott started out playing the javelin only at the age of 15, but found immediate success. Back in April 2009, just a week after his 16th birthday, he emerged as the Caribbean youth (under-17) champion. The following year, in 2010 he continued his domination of the Caribbean junior division, winning multiple events.
He won the Junior (under-20) javelin throw at the CARIFTA Games consecutively from 2010 to 2012. As a result, he set a new NACAC North, Central American and Caribbean junior record in the process. Walcott became the first athlete in any track and field event to win both the World Junior and Olympic titles in an individual event in the same year after winning gold in the London 2012 Olympics.
He is also the youngest Olympic gold medallist in the men’s javelin throw event, at 19 years and 131 days. While he has seemingly failed to match his early hype over the past few years, he is making a comeback trail in 2024. Walcott is currently ranked ninth on the world rankings, and won first-place at the Kuortane Games in Finland. Walcott threw an impressive 84.89m throw that day. He registered his best throw of the season at the NGC National Association of Athletics Administrations Junior and Senior Championships. He won his eighth national title with an impressive 85.22m throw.
