With a remarkable performance on the grandest platform, Sumit Antil won the gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago, catapulting him to fame. He completely dominated the field, breaking the record three times. Since then, Sumit has increased the standard for his world record by expanding his dominance in the F64 javelin category worldwide.

The current record is 73.29 meters, which Sumit attained in Hangzhou during the Para Asian Games. He won the world titles this year at Paris (70.83m) and Kobe (69.50m) in between. All of these victories are still just stepping stones for 26-year-old Sumit toward the Paris Paralympics.
26-year-old Sumit Antil was born to Niramala Devi and Ram Kumar Antil in Khewra, Sonipat on 7 June 1998. He is 6ft 2in tall. At the age of seven, his father, who was employed by the Indian Air Force, passed suddenly.
Following this mishap, his mother encouraged him to take up athletics. Sushila, Renu, and Kiran are his three sisters. He was born into the Tomar Jat subclan, the Antil clan. Sumit, who was young, aspired to join the Indian Army and become a professional wrestler but in 2015, when he was 17, his motorbike was hit by a speeding truck while he was returning home from a tuition class. As a result, his left leg was amputated and he had to abandon his dream.
While pursuing his B.Com. at Ramjas College of Delhi University, Antil was introduced to para-athletics by fellow para-athlete Rajkumar, following his graduation from Dev Rishi Senior Secondary School in Sonipat.
Sumit is married to Sheetal, a resident of Ladpur in Delhi with the two getting married in Murthal in 2022. Sumit’s net worth is between Rs.5-10 crore.
Sumit Antil career
Sumit Antil began training with Nitin Jaiswal in Delhi in 2017 and participated in competitions on both national and international stages. He started participating on the national circuit in javelin, and in 2019 GoSports accepted him into the Para Champions Program.
He set a world record in the F64 category in 2019 at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Italy, which helped him earn the Silver medal in the Combined Event. At the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai in 2019, he went on to win the Silver Medal and set a new world record in the F64 category.
At the 2020 Summer Paralympics, Antil set a world record in the javelin throw F64, winning a gold medal on August 30, 2021.
