Who is Vikrant Malik?
Vikrant Malik is an Indian track and field athlete who was born on January 2, 1996. He stands 5 feet 8 inches and weighs 75 kilograms. The 28-year-old grew up in Ugra Kheri in Haryana’s Panipat district. The 28-year-old was the oldest to enter the 80m club for the first time back in 2022.
It all started because of his father who inspired him to go towards the athletics world. Initially, he used to play volleyball as per what was reported by The Hindu.
Later, his father Rajender was the one to realise his throwing speed. His father, an army man who had participated in the sport as a child, had pushed him to learn how to throw a javelin.
This first one occurred shortly after he threw 66.54 metres and placed eighth in his first national competition, the 2014 Junior Federation Cup held in Chennai.
However, he was sidelined by several injuries which compelled him to visit multiple doctors, impacting his growing career. As per what he told the aforementioned outlet, it took him over a year to recover
During the Federation Cup in March 2019, he experienced a recurrence of the tennis elbow problem along with back pain. It was the time when he was told he had to leave the sport.
However, he didn’t look back and kept walking forward. His father again stepped in to inspire him not to quit and motivate him for the future.
Late in 2022, at Bhubaneshwar, Vikrant Malik set a personal best of 81.82 metres. The national record, held by Neeraj Chopra, is 89.94 metres. Vikrant threw a 75.28-meter distance in Slovenia.
Nevertheless, his best throw of the season was 81.68 metres, which he made at the Indian Open Throws Competition in Patiala in March.
