Jatin stalked and shot at a 17-year-old JEE aspirant named Kanishka in broad daylight on Monday in Ballabgarh’s Shyam Colony in Faridabad when the victim, identified as a class 12 student Kanishka, was on her way back from the library. She was admitted to a nearby hospital in critical condition after the bullet struck her shoulder.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man named Jatin Mangla, who shot a 17-year-old schoolgirl in Ballabgarh, Faridabad. The attack took place at around 5 pm in Shyam Colony, where the CCTV footage shows Mangla waiting near his motorcycle. He then crosses the road and opens fire at the girl as she walks with her friends. The victim suffered a bullet injury to her palm while trying to shield herself, and fragments of the bullet grazed her shoulder and face. She was immediately rushed to the hospital and is now under recovery, with the police launching an immediate search and tracking down Mangla within just hours of the incident.

Motive behind the shooting
According to investigators, Jatin Mangla had been stalking the girl for months and had allegedly received several warnings from her family to stay away. He continued to harass her despite repeated objections, and the shooting appears to be a result of anger and rejection. Police sources say the attack was deliberate, not impulsive as Mangla allegedly waited for the girl and carried a weapon with the intent to harm her.

Jatin Mangla is currently booked under charges of attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and illegal possession of a firearm. Police are also currently investigating whether he had any prior criminal record or access to licensed or illegal weapons.

Jatin Mangla biography and age
Jatin Mangla from Sohna is a 20-year-old resident of Ballabgarh in Faridabad, Haryana, who lived in the same locality as the victim. He was known in the area for repeatedly stalking her before the shooting, and although he had no official criminal record, the girl’s family had previously warned him several times. As of now, there is little to nothing known about his education or family. Authorities are currently investigating his background, access to the weapon, and whether he has previously targeted others before.
Jatin’s father is no more and his mother had asserted Kanishka’s family that he wouldn’t trouble her anymore after they she had complained to them about him harassing her.
According to Kanishka’s elder sister, Khushi, the victim confided in her family about Mangla’s harassment.
Profession
Jatin worked as an accountant and was from Sarmathla village near Sohna in Gurugram. Mangla and Kanishka went to the same Classmate library to study and Jatin took admission in the library not to study but to get close to the girl.
Kanishka is a Class 12 science student of the Open Education Board and preparing for the JEE.
“The accused enrolled in the Classmate Library about six months ago, while the girl had been enrolled there for a year. The library management said Jatin Mangla works as an accountant at a nearby private college,” said Ballabhgarh City Police Station SHO, Inspector Shamsher Singh.
