Who is Jason Wilcox?
Jason Malcolm Wilcox is an English football coach and director of football at Southampton in the EFL Championship and a former professional football player. The 52-year-old was born on March 15, 1971 in Bolton, England and stands 5 ft 11 in (1.80 m) tall.
A look at Jason Wilcox’s career
Wilcox played as a left winger for Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League, where he won the championship in 1995. He played from 1989 to 2006. Additionally, he played in the Championship for both Leicester City and Leeds United in the top division.
After a brief stint with Blackpool in the Football League, he retired. He played three times for England. Following his football retirement, Wilcox worked as a co-commentator on BBC Radio Lancashire until taking a job as a coach at Manchester City in 2012.
During his career, Wilcox won the Premier League while at Blackburn Rovers, also featuring for Leeds United and Blackpool before retiring in 2006.
After that, he joined Manchester City in the Premier League as the academy director, a position he held until 2023 when he moved to Southampton.
Phil Foden, Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb, as well as Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, all developed in the City academy during Wilcox’s time as director, a role he began in 2017 having previously worked as the Under-18s head coach.
