How did Sean Taylor die?

At the time of a failed burglary attempt in November 2007, Sean Taylor was at home in Miami. Five individuals from the Fort Myers area entered his home looking for money; they were unaware that the NFL player was recovering from a knee injury at home rather than playing for the Redskins against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to the ailment.

One of the suspects acknowledged being shot after approaching them at his bedroom door with a machete.
Both the 18-month-old child and Taylor’s fiance Jackie Garcia Haley, who were also inside the house, escaped injuries. Sean Taylor was shot in the upper leg,  resulting torn femoral artery resulted in significant blood loss that ultimately led to his death. Sean Taylor was quickly rushed to the hospital, but he later died.

Who is Jason Mitchell?

Sea Taylor’s murder was primarily planned by Jason Mitchell. He is a resident of the Lee County, Florida Municipal District of Lehigh Acres. Jason Mitchell was found guilty of first-degree felony murder and armed burglary. Mitchell is believed to be the mastermind of a bungled home invasion at Taylor’s house in November 2007. Following his trial, Mitchell was given a life sentence in jail.

Other than Jason, Venjah K. Hunte 20, Eric Rivera 17 and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow 18 were also arrested. Eric Rivera was convicted of second-degree murder. Rivera received a 57-year jail term for his involvement in Taylor’s murder. The charges against all four individuals included a maximum sentence of life in prison: felony second-degree murder, armed burglary, and home invasion robbery with a handgun. In May 2008, a 16-year-old defendant named Timothy Brown was accused of both burglary and first-degree murder.
