Mia Love dead

Mia Love was a former US Representative who recently passed away on March 23, 2025. She is widely known for being the first Black Republican woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, while representing Utah’s 4th Congressional District from 2015 to 2019. Throughout her career, Mia was renowned for her unwavering dedication towards promoting conservative principles.

She was an advocate for limited government and played a groundbreaking role as a Black woman in the Republican Party. Love reportedly passed away peacefully at her residence in Saratoga Springs, Utah, surrounded by her loved ones. Following the news of her death, Governor Spencer Cox posted on X, saying that he was “heartbroken” by news of Love’s death. He added:

From the time we were mayors together I could always count on Mia as a true friend. Her legacy of service inspired all who knew her. We pray for her family and mourn with them.”

Cause of death

Mia Love reportedly passed away after a longstanding battle with brain cancer. Love was initially diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive and often fatal form of brain cancer, in 2022. Despite undergoing extensive treatments like surgery, radiation, and participation in an immunotherapy clinical trial, the disease continued to progress. Just earlier this year, her family announced that her treatment was no longer effective and that they had instead shifted to focusing on spending quality time with her.

Mia Love bio

Mia Love was born as Ludmya Bourdeau on December 6, 1975, in Brooklyn, New York. She was the daughter of Haitian immigrants, Maxime and Marie Bourdeau. Her parents emigrated from Haiti in search of better opportunities, which instilled a deep appreciation for the American Dream since her childhood. Love grew up in Connecticut and eventually moved to Utah, where she became involved in community affairs.

Mia Love attended Norwalk High School in Connecticut before enrolling at the University of Hartford, where she studied theatre.

Religion

Mia Love was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She reportedly converted to the faith back in 1997 after attending a worship service alongside her sister.

Political career

Mia Love experienced a political career marked by a series of historic achievements. She started out her career serving as mayor of Saratoga Springs and gained national attention in 2012 after running for Congress against Democratic incumbent Jim Matheson. Despite narrowly losing the race, she returned in 2014 and won. Through her win, she made history as the first Black Republican woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Husband and children

Mia Love was married to her husband Jason Love who is a Christian by religion, whom she met after moving to Utah. The couple shared a committed relationship throughout her public service career and together raised three children named Alessa, Abigale, and Peyton. Love often spoke about the importance of having her family in her life and also credited her husband and her children for always keeping her grounded amidst all the pressures of politics.

While in Utah, Love dated Jason, whom she had met previously when he was an LDS missionary in Connecticut. Jason and Mia Love were married in December 1998, four months after their first date.

When she moved to West Jordan, she reconnected with Jason Love whom she had briefly met when Love was serving his Latter-day Saint mission in New York and they began dating and married a few months later.

The couple moved into a subdivision in Saratoga Springs on the shores of Utah Lake that was plagued by nettlesome flies, called midges. While Jason’s DOB isn’t known, he was aged between 45-55 years.

Mia Love is survived by her husband Jason, her daughters Alessa (Lincoln) and Abigale, her son Peyton and her parents.
