His most infamous moment came in 2022 January in an AFCON Africa Cup of the Nations match between Tunisia and Mali. Sikazwe chose to blow the whistle in the 85th minute while Mali got leading with a scoreline of 1-0, causing the Tunisia bench for protesting against his decision. After the match was restarted, Sikazwe again chose for blowing the whistle 17 seconds before the 90th minute. Sikazwe later on, explained that it was extreme heat that made him take that decision.
Janny Sikazwe Professional Career
Janny Sikazwe is a Zambian referee and he was born on May 26th in 1979. Presently he is 43 years of age. He has been registered with FIFA, world football’s controlling head since 2007. Janny’s career took off in 2008 when Sikazwe was called out in to officiate a COSAFA Under -20 Challenge Cup game in South Africa.
Sikazwe was born in Kapiri Mposhi and fter receiving his Fifa licence in 2010, he first progressed through international youth matches before taking charge of African Cup of Nations qualifiers in 2012. While he is married, his wife’s name is not known.
In 2015, Janny Sikazwe found himself among the referees set for officiating that year’s Africa Cup of the Nations tournament. The 2 major club football matches which were officiated by Janny Sikazwe include the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final in between the teams Cameron and Egypt, and the FIFA Club World Cup match held in 2016 between Real Madrid and Japan’s Kashima Antlers.
Sikazwe became one of the centers of controversy after he finished Tunisia vs Mali match. Moreover, a forensic report later disclosed that he was suffering from a heat stroke. Janny Sikazwe had mentioned, ‘this is the reason that might have faltered his judgment during the match held.’
