Neeraj Chopra, an Olympic medallist and India’s golden kid has revealed some exciting news about Jan Zelezny who is his new coach.

Jan Zelezny holds numerous records and has won numerous gold medals in the Olympics and World Championships. He will take over for Dr. Klaus Bartonietz, Neeraj’s former coach, with whom he has won two Olympic and two World Championship medals.

Three-time Olympic champion and current world record holder Jan Zelezny has been selected by Neeraj Chopra to serve as his training coach. Under the Indian Sports Ministry’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Zelezny has been assigned this significant duty, and the ministry will also pay his salary.

Neeraj Chopra said, “Since childhood, I have been a big fan of Zelezny’s technique and accuracy. I was always inspired by watching his videos. Now the opportunity to work with him will add new dimensions to my career. Our throwing styles are also very similar, which I will benefit from this partnership.”

Jan Zelezny career

In addition to winning the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in 1992, 1996, and 2000, Jan Zelezny took home the silver medal from the 1988 Olympics. He was crowned World Champion in 1993, 1995, and 2001.

Železný is a Gold medalist at the 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games and has five of the top ten best throws of all time and his current record of 98.48m was set in Germany in 1996.

The world records of 98.48 meters (323 feet 1 inch) and 92.80 meters (304 feet 6 inches), set in 1996 and 2001, respectively, are held by Zelezny. In a single meet on March 26, 1997, in Stellenbosch, South Africa, he threw over the 90-meter barrier five times.

Zelezny faced several formidable opponents during his career, including Boris Henry, Seppo Räty, Raymond Hecht, Aki Parviainen, Steve Backley, and Sergey Makarov.

After winning the bronze medal at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg with a throw of 85.92 meters (281 feet 11 inches), Zelezny had decided to retire. On 19 September 2006, he took a break from his career to show at Mladá Boleslav, where he began his sporting career.

Zelezny is the coach of Vítězslav Vesely and was Barbora Spotakova’s previous coach. At Fulton County Stadium, four days after taking home a gold medal from the 1996 Olympics, Zelezny tried out for the Atlanta Braves’ baseball team.

Although Zelezny had no prior baseball expertise beyond throwing a ball at home with his small son, he and the Braves took the test seriously and did not view it as a “sideshow” or “publicity stunt.”
