After her daughter’s nude photos were made public, Charlotte Laws was one of the women who sued Moore and the website. But a wide range of individuals contributed to IsAnyoneUp.com’s demise. James McGibney was one of them. However, who is he and how did he get involved with The Most Hated Man on the Internet?
Who Is The Most Hated Man On The Internet, James Mcgibney?
James McGibney, a former soldier and businessman, is the creator of BullyVille.com and a number of other websites.
The Radio Times claims that after serving in the Marines, he established SecuraTrak, a satellite-based tracking business. He later launched CheaterVille.com in 2011, a website that allowed users to publish pictures of those who had been accused of cheating anonymously. Frequently, stories would go along with the images.
However, according to Wired, he shut down the website after learning that some users were submitting false information about women they were interested in or felt had rejected them.
Regarding the aforementioned BullyVille, it was created in 2012 with the goal of naming and shaming bullies, empowering victims to tell their tales, and finding solace and support in one another.

Isnyoneup.Com And Hunter Moore
In the Netflix documentary, James discusses his interaction with Hunter Moore and claims he was “appalled” by what he witnessed on IsAnyoneUp.
According to The Cinemaholic, Mcgibney started placing ads on the website to win over the site’s creator since he believed that nobody liked Moore but that no one was doing anything to change that. Once he had Moore’s confidence, he made an offer to buy the website from Moore, and the latter accepted. Moore was persuaded by McGibney when he warned him that the site will eventually lead him to jail.
According to The Radio Times, McGibney purchased the domain in April 2012 for “less than $15,000” and changed its redirection to BullyVille. You will be taken to McGibney’s website if you visit IsAnyoneUp today, where he describes his motivation.
He writes, “My work is not finished. I took control of and shut down the disgusting revenge porn website www.isanyoneup.com.” Instead of asking for a gift, I’m encouraging you to join the team as an investor in AnyOneUp, Inc. because we’re creating an online community that supports those who have been the victims of bullying, stalking, and harassment.
What Happened To James Mcgibney?
According to the Radio Times, McGibney and his business ViaView were compelled to pay $1 million as part of a 2015 Anti-SLAPP (strategic litigation against public participation) fine after purchasing the IsAnyoneUp domain. This was in addition to Neal Rauhauser receiving $300,000 in legal costs for making “baseless” claims in lawsuits against him.
The decision was, however, lowered from $1m to $150,000 in 2016 after being momentarily and temporarily overturned. The sanctions were actually overturned after an appeal in 2018; the court found them to be unjust and the case was ultimately overturned.
In 2021, McGibney celebrated receiving a cybersecurity certification from Harvard University. Currently, he is pursuing a doctorate in technology. He doesn’t have an official Instagram account with his net worth standing at $500,000. His date of birth isn’t known but he is aged between 30-40 years.
How Did Hunter Moore Fare?
Moore entered a guilty plea in 2015 to charges of helping and abetting illegal access to a computer and aggravated identity theft. His sentence included three years of supervised release after serving two and a half years in federal prison.
He was also given an order to wipe all the data on his seized computers, along with having to pay a $2,000 fine and $145.70 in restitution. In May 2017, he was freed from custody.
