At the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s 100m semi-final, Noah Lyles finished with a timing of 9.83s and fell short by a mere 0.02 seconds compared to Jamaica’s Oblique Seville. Who is Oblique Seville?

A Calabar High School alumnus, Seville is coached by Glen Mills at the Racers Track Club. His standout year was 2019, when he won the 100 meters and 4×100 meters relay at the CARIFTA Games and claimed the 100m title at the Jamaican U20 Championships. He also earned silver in the 100m and 4×100 meters relay at the Pan American U20 Championships.

Despite the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic disruption, Seville excelled in April 2021 at the Jamaican Olympic Trials with the fastest 100m time, qualifying for the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he reached the semi-finals. At the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, he advanced to the final but finished fourth.

In 2023, Seville placed third at the Jamaican national championships and matched his personal best in the 100m at the World Championships in Budapest, again finishing fourth. In 2024, he set a personal best in the 200 meters with a time of 20.17 seconds in March and ran 19.96 seconds for a straight 200 meters in May. At the Racers Grand Prix in June 2024, he achieved a world-leading time of 9.82 seconds in the 100 meters.
