Iva Jovic, who is currently ranked No. 389 in the world, started out playing a variety of sports in her early years, including swimming, gymnastics, and soccer. She started out playing tennis at the young age of five alongside her older sister on the courts on top of their Torrance, California apartment building. She eventually developed a deep passion for the sport and soon joined the Jack Kramer Club to improve her skills.
Jovic mainly gained prominence after winning the U14 singles event during the Orange Bowl in December 2021. She then finished as a runner-up at the inaugural International Junior Championships after losing to Clervie Ngounoue in the final. She then won the doubles at the Orange Bowl in 2022 and again in 2023 alongside compatriot Tyra Caterina Grant.
Jovic also played as part of the American team that won the 2023 Junior Billie Jean Cup alongside Grant and Alanis Hamilton. Jovic lost just 26 games in total throughout her 12 singles sets. Grant then went on to win the girlsโ doubles draw final at the 2024 Australian Open. And reached the final at the 2024 French Open as well. The pair also won the girlsโ doubles title at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships earlier this year.
Jovic eventually made her Grand Slam debut at the ongoing 2024 US Open after receiving wildcards for the main draw in both the singles and doubles events. She won a wildcard after winning in the USTAโs U18 National Championships. After her record first Grand Slam and WTA Tour win over Magda Linette, she will now face off against 29-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova.
